    CCTV compatibility guide

Will my CCTV monitoring work after the PSTN switch off?

Your cameras will keep recording, but any alarm-verified CCTV that signals to a monitoring centre over a phone line will fail. Here's the equipment, migration steps and provider questions to fix it before 31 January 2027.

    At risk

    • PSTN autodiallers connected to a DVR/NVR alarm output
    • RedCare Classic CCTV signalling paths
    • Legacy DualCom GPRS units with PSTN back-up
    • Analogue voice lines used for ARC two-way audio
    • Alarm-verified CCTV without an IP or 4G path

    Usually fine

    • IP cameras streaming to a local NVR or cloud
    • HD-over-coax cameras recording to a modern DVR
    • Cloud CCTV platforms (Verkada, Eagle Eye, Ring for Business)
    • Dual-path IP + 4G signalling to an ARC
    • Remote viewing apps on mobile or desktop

    CCTV migration checklist

    1. List every phone line, dialler and signalling path tied to CCTV.
    2. Confirm cameras and DVR/NVR are IP-capable (most modern kit is).
    3. Specify a dual-path IP + 4G communicator for the required grade.
    4. Check broadband is fit for purpose — SoGEA, FTTP or leased line.
    5. Re-register the site with the ARC and test end-to-end signalling.
    6. Only disconnect the old PSTN line once the new path is signed off.

    Ask your CCTV monitoring provider

    1. Is my current CCTV alarm signalling PSTN-dependent?
    2. What grade of signalling does my insurance or licence require?
    3. Which dual-path IP/4G communicator do you recommend?
    4. Will my existing DVR/NVR work with the new communicator?
    5. How is the system tested after the swap, and who signs it off?
    6. Can you complete the upgrade before Q4 2026 to avoid the pre-deadline rush?
