Alarm compatibility guide
Will my alarm work after the PSTN switch off?
If your intruder, fire or telecare alarm dials out over a phone line, it will stop reporting when the UK PSTN switches off on 31 January 2027. Here's how to check, what to replace, and what to ask your provider.
At risk
- Digital communicators dialling over analogue lines
- Legacy RedCare Classic / RedCare GSM services
- Older DualCom GPRS units still using PSTN back-up
- Analogue-only telecare pendants and lifelines
- Fire alarms auto-dialling an ARC over PSTN
Usually fine
- DualCom Pro / WebWayOne / CSL DualCom units
- App-based smart alarms on Wi-Fi + 4G
- Cloud-managed intruder platforms
- Standalone bells-only alarms (not monitored)
- Modern digital telecare hubs
Ask your alarm provider
- Is my current signalling path PSTN-dependent?
- Which dual-path (IP + 4G) device do you recommend for my insurer's grade?
- Do I need a new control panel, or just a new communicator?
- How is the alarm powered and connected during a broadband outage?
- Will the upgrade be certified so my insurance stays valid?
- What's the lead time — can you install before Q4 2026?

Copy the pre-filled email below and paste it into your email app to send to your alarm provider.
- Is our alarm signalling over a PSTN/analogue line (for example Digi/PSTN dialler or RedCARE)?
- What replacement signalling path do you recommend (IP, dual-path IP plus radio, or 4G/5G)?
- Which grade of signalling does our insurance or certification require, and will the replacement meet it?
- Will the panel need replacing or can a communicator module be fitted?
- How will the system be monitored and tested during and after the migration?
- Will our alarm receiving centre (ARC) contract or monitoring costs change?
